Why Book a Birth Photographer
Birth photography is a new(ish) specialty in the photography industry, and is quickly becoming a more sought after service. Two years ago when I was asked to shoot my first birth story, I hadn't seen or heard much about it at all, so doing research leading up to the due date presented it's own unique set of challenges. Most of the photography work I had done up to that point had been in controlled setting with posing instructions with some documentary work on wedding days. With birth photography, I would say that 95-98% of what I do is documentary work. There is very minimal direction (if any at all) from me because all I want you to be focusing on is your labor and your delivery.
Now that you know what to expect from me during the process, let's talk a little bit more about why you should hire a birth photographer. Birth, for some couples, is a once in a lifetime experience. It's something you've waited and prayed for, for what feels like a lifetime with impatient and fearful hearts. But the moment that healthy, pink baby takes it's first breath is one you'll never forget. It's not a moment you want to experience through the screen of your phone. It's a moment you want to breathe in with hands clasped tightly around your fresh new babe, feeling the warmth of joy-filled tears on your cheeks. That is exactly where I come in. While you focus on your labor and what your body is telling you, I am there to capture the story. This allows you and your husband to both be active participants because you are not feeling the pressure of taking pictures to show family members. You are given the opportunity to be fully present, and to live in the moment with absolute freedom. I believe every parent deserves this type of experience, and that the social pressures of society should not steal those precious moments from you.
My goal is to capture the whole story from start to finish so that when your daughter asks you to tell the story of her birth just one more time, you will have a set of timeless images to flip through together.
