Titus Kyle | Piedmont Fayette Hospital Birth
Four weeks ago today, I had the opportunity to watch one of my best friends in the world become a mother. Alex & Jessica were admitted to the hospital on Monday night and began their induction on Tuesday morning. Everyone trickled in that morning with bags and cooler packed, ready to send their support from the waiting room. When I got there, Jessica was in good spirits and everyone was buzzing about the room with excitement. We set up the essential oils diffuser and settled in for the day.
Jessica was incredible all day long. As each hour passed and her labor progressed, she developed a rhythm to cope with each contraction, and Alex was there to help and support her in every way. She chose a natural birth plan, moving about the room, trying new positions, and finding new ways to handle the pain. The hours wore on and everyone grew tired, but Jessica remained focused and strong. Alex stayed by her side, holding her up at times and encouraging her positive affirmations. At about 7:45pm, they came in and checked Jessica's progress and it looked like we were in for a long night. Titus had other plans however and decided to shoot down into the birth canal, and about 25 minutes later they were setting up the room for delivery. Jessica still had a little further to go, but we knew we were getting SO close to the end! After an incredibly long day, Jessica was worn out and while leaning against her mama, she would doze off between contractions. A little over an hour later, Jessica got her second wind and it was time to begin pushing. With Alex, her mom, and mother-in-law there to help her, she pushed for under 30 minutes, and Titus Kyle was born at 10:18pm!
The strength, endurance, and grace that Jessica displayed throughout the whole day was inspiring. She kept to her birth plan and was able to keep a clear head even with her increasing pain. I saw a new side of my sweet friend that day, and I like to think our friendship is stronger because of it.
Jessica & Alex, I am thankful beyond words to have been the one to document these memories for you. Your friendship means the world to me and I love seeing you both as parents! Congratulations, friends!
